sir.
AMERICAN CONSULAR SERVICE.
Enclosure 1.
380
REC
52037
REG 280EC14
October 31, 1914.
I have the honour to transmit herewith the
original of a letter I have received from representative
German firms in Hongkong which I am asked to transmit to the
Colonial Government in their behalf. I do not think that the
letter calls for any comment from this office as the represent-
ative of a neutral power during the war in Europe other than perhaps to express the keen interest this office has in all
matters relating to the trade of the colony and to express my
regret that so serious a set-back to the trade of Hongkong as is represented by the action taken with respect to German firms has been found necessary.
The Honourable
The Colàntal Secretary,
Hongkong.
I have, etc.
Sd.
GEORGE E. ANDERSON
Consul-General.
